Rotary Club of Tamale Partners to Deliver Eye Care to Changli Community

ncehOn Saturday, March 7, 2026, the Rotary Club of Tamale, in partnership with key stakeholders, organized a community eye screening as part of the Changli Joint Project. The outreach took place at the Kulikuli School AstroTurf in the Changli community.
The exercise aimed to improve access to eye care services and raise awareness about preventable blindness. During the screening, nearly 400 residents received comprehensive eye examinations to assess their eye health status.
Among those screened, 37 individuals were diagnosed with blinding cataracts and have been scheduled to receive free cataract surgery at the Tamale Eye Hospital. Cataract remains one of the leading causes of preventable blindness, and timely surgical intervention can restore sight and significantly improve quality of life.
In addition to cataracts, several other eye conditions were identified during the outreach. These included glaucoma, refractive errors, pterygium, and other ocular conditions. Individuals diagnosed with these conditions were referred to the Tamale Eye Hospital for further assessment, treatment, and ongoing management.
The initiative highlights the importance of community-based eye health programs in identifying eye diseases early and ensuring that people in underserved communities receive the care they need. Through partnerships like this, organizations continue to bring life-changing eye care services closer to the communities that need them most.
